Think utilities, think power. The Utilities industry in BC is comprised of natural gas (not that kind) and electricity utilities. Electric power companies, electrical contractors and public utilities are the primary employers in BC. Employment opportunities are available with a diverse group of employers including B.C. Hydro, Fortis and the private Line Contractors Association and municipalities.
The power distribution industry is physically demanding but also pretty rewarding. Technicians are well paid for their above-average skills and specialties - enough to send you on a 'power trip.' [Power Line Technicians] participate in the building of overhead and underground power distribution lines as well as service and maintenance tasks. Successful employment in the trade will lead to an apprenticeship agreement with employers and attainment of Journeyperson Red Seal Certification upon completion of apprenticeship.
